More About Bridges
Let Us Help You Restore Your Smile
At some point in life, many adults will have issues with damaged, decayed, or missing teeth. Luckily, there are several options available to you if this happens.
Depending on the number of teeth missing, your oral health, and the condition of your existing teeth, your dentist will help you decide between dentures, crowns, bridges, and dental implants.
Dentists recommend you deal with tooth loss as soon as possible. Leaving untreated spaces in your mouth can cause several issues such as:
The shifting and moving of teeth
TMJ or other Jaw issues
Gum disease
Receiving professional dental treatment, like bridges, is critical in avoiding or worsening these complications.
Dental Bridges and Abutment Teeth
Dental bridges are used to replace one or more missing, or badly decayed teeth. A dental bridge essentially acts as a bridge that fills in the gap between the surrounding teeth. The permanent bridge extends across space and is made up of Pontic (false teeth) that are fused between 2 crowns on abutment teeth. Bridges are held firmly in place by either your teeth or by dental implants. A bridge is made of natural materials (typically porcelain) and looks just like natural teeth.
Additionally, dental bridges:
Our non-surgical, safe, and effective
Can restore your confidence, your bite, and chewing ability
Are more durable and stable than dentures
Can prevent problems that arise due to adjacent teeth shifting
Do I Need a Bridge?
Bridges can help restore your natural smile. You could be a good candidate for a dental bridge if:
You have one to three consecutive missing teeth
You have good oral and overall health
You are free from gum disease
You have a solid foundation of healthy teeth on which the bridge can be built
You have strong jawbone density
What to Expect
Receiving a dental bridge is a multi-step process. Here is what you can expect:
A local anesthetic will be injected into the gum tissue adjacent to the tooth next to the dental bridge.
The dentist will reshape the teeth that will house the crowns.
An impression will then be made of the missing tooth and the surrounding teeth or implants. You'll then receive a temporary bridge to fill in space.
The impression is sent off to a lab for customization.
Once the permanent dental bridge arrives at our office, you will come in to have it placed.
